In this technology-driven era, upholding socially responsible journalism is a challenge. There is a need for journalists, and journalism at large, to be sensitive.

This was said by Prof Pitabas Pradhan of Aligarh Muslim University during an interactive programme organised by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (DJMC) of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) here on Saturday.

He said while it was essential to keep up with technology in the field of journalism and mass communication, technology should not be allowed to dominate it.

He stressed that journalism should be viewed as a social mission. Prof Vikram Kaushik of Guru Jambheshwar University, Hisar, said, with innovations in technology, computers now had begun to perform tasks such as content creation and news production, which were earlier only done by humans.

In this scenario, journalism students needed to prepare themselves to face these technology-driven challenges.

Prof Kumar said, in the era of AI, convergence points between machine learning and human sensibilities would shape the future.

He noted that technology had brought media to a new pinnacle, and it was our collective responsibility to preserve the democratic essence of media.

Research scholar Priya moderated the programme, while Dr Kavita Dahiya from Nehru PG College, Jhajjar, delivered the vote of thanks.

Assistant Prof Sunit Mukherjee, Dr Naveen Kumar and Dr Amit Bhardwaj were among those present at the event.
