Yamunanagar, May 29

Vedant Sharma, a 10th grade student from William Mason High School in Ohio, USA, wanted to do something to help his countrymen during the pandemic.

He had Rs 36,000 ($ 500), which he had got as “shaguns” from his elders during his trips to India. He also started a GoFundMe page and in a few days, he was able to raise over Rs 3,24,000 ($ 4,500).

With Rs 3,60,000 raised, he bought four BiPAP machines and sent these to Civil Hospital, Yamunanagar.

Vedant wanted to send the help directly to a government hospital to make sure it directly reached people in need and with lesser means.

Meanwhile, Dr Vijay Dahiya, Civil Surgeon, said Vedant contacted a medical supply store to get the BiPAP machines. “After hearing the cause, the store manager provided the machines at heavy discounts,” he said.

The Civil Surgeon said: “BiPAP is a machine that pushes pressurised air into your lungs. That opens them and lets you get the oxygen you need, which can lower your chances of things like decreased air enter into your lungs leading to hypoxia.”
