The Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) administration while taking cognisance of the physical assault on a student of the Department of Law that resulted in grave injury to the student, has expelled a LLB student – Sumit— from the department as well as the hostel till the final outcome of the proceedings of the proctorial board, said the university spokesman.

In a press note issued here yesterday, he said the decision was taken on the recommendations of the proctorial board of the university.

“The proctorial board comprising of MDU Proctor Prof Rajesh Punia, Dean Students’ Welfare Prof Randeep Rana, and HoD (Law) Dr Jitender Dhull recommended this disciplinary action keeping in view the serious nature of the matter

and gross indiscipline by the student concerned,” he added.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajbir Singh said the university administration would not tolerate any act of indiscipline, violation of rules and regulations and violence on the campus. The university was committed to zero indiscipline on the campus and weed out such elements with an iron hand, he asserted.
