Cracking the case of alleged molestation and murder of a 25-year-old woman, Sunnati, at the midnight of Tuesday at Hajipur Gauheta village in Nuh district, the police have arrested the husband of the deceased. The accused allegedly revealed that he had committed the crime as he doubted his wife's character.

Meanwhile, the second accused was also nabbed by the CIA, Punhana team, after a brief encounter. The accused was shot in the leg while Inspector Sandeep Mor, incharge of CIA, Punhana, injured his thumb.

According to the police, the main accused of murder is Inayat, husband of the victim. A country-made pistol, an empty bullet shell and a mobile phone was seized from his possession. The other accused has been identified as Shakir, a resident of Tirwada village in Nuh. A country-made pistol and a bike was seized from his possession.

As many as 12 cases are registered against Shakir at Tauru, Nagina, Punhana and Ferozpur Jhirka police station on various charges, such as robbery, theft, possession of illegal weapons and obstructing government work.

During interrogation, Inayat reportedly confessed to the crime, saying that he suspected his wife of having an illicit relationship.

The police laid a trap after getting information that Shakir was going towards Tirwada on a motorcycle. The police put a barricade on the Punhana Jurhera road drain. Shakir spotted the police and tried to flee, forcing the police to open fire.

“Inayat had earlier claimed that masked miscreants had looted the couple and started molesting his wife, and when she protested, they shot her. The two accused, including the husband of the deceased, has been arrested,” said Punhana DSP Pradeep Atri.
