Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Anil Vij held a review meeting with officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) at his residence yesterday to assess the progress of ongoing highway projects in Ambala.

During the meeting, Vij directed officials to ensure seamless connectivity between the proposed site of the Institute of Driving Training and Research and the Automated Testing Station near Shahpur, Ambala, and the GT Road. "Both ends of the site should be properly connected to GT Road’s service lanes to ensure there is no problem in commuting," he stressed while discussing the issue with NHAI’s Project Director for Ambala, PK Sinha.

The minister noted that land for the institute has already been identified and the project, once operational, would significantly enhance driving standards and testing infrastructure in the region.

Vij also reviewed other ongoing NHAI projects in Ambala Cantonment and took stock of their status and timelines. He gave specific directions for upgrading the road from Railway Colony that passes under the under-construction Road Over Bridge (ROB) near Shastri Colony on GT Road.

"This road should be developed according to proper standards to ensure safety and ease of movement," he said, underlining the importance of infrastructure quality in urban areas.
