Villager gets 20-year jail for bid to sexually abuse minor

Special Public Prosecutor Guldev Kumar Tandon said Ranjana Aggarwal, Additional Sessions Judge (Fast Track Special Court under POCSO Act), also imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 on convict Om Chand alias Chandgi Ram (59) of a village falling under Sadhaura police station of Yamunanagar district.
Tandon said in default of payment of fine, the convict would further undergo simple imprisonment for a period of one year.
According to information, a village woman had lodged a complaint with the police on August 29, 2024. She had stated that her 12-year-old daughter went out of the house to throw garbage at a point situated outside the village, but did not return home.
The complainant said while looking for her daughter she reached near Chandgi Ram’s cattle yard, she heard the cries of her daughter.
“The gate of the cattle yard was closed from inside. When I made a noise, Chandgi Ram opened the door and ran away. When I went inside the shed, I saw my daughter in a naked condition with her clothes kept on one side,” the complainant told the police.
She said her daughter told her that Chandgi Ram forcibly tried to sexually abuse her. On the complaint of the woman, a case was registered against the accused under Sections 65(2) 351(3) of BNS and Section 6 POCSO Act at Sadhaura police station on August 29, 2024.
