The protesting villagers, including the sarpanches of some villages, said the residents of villages located within a radius of 10 km from the toll plaza should be exempted from paying the toll.

A team of police officials tried to convince the protesters to lift the dharna, but the villagers said the dharna would continue till their demand for toll exemption was met.

Meanwhile, the INLD has supported the demand of the villagers.

In a statement issued on Monday, INLD leader Abhay Singh Chautala has maintained that the minimum distance between two toll plazas should be 60 km, the Haryana Government had violated the said rule by setting up toll plazas at much lesser distances in the state.

He accused the BJP government of looting lakhs of crores of rupees from the state residents through the toll plazas.

"The residents of 17 villages under the Lakhan Majra block in Rohtak district have been seeking exemption from the toll plaza set up at Chandi village, but to no avail. The INLD supports the demand of the villagers," he said.

Chautala demanded that the residents of 17 villages situated in the radius of 20 km from the toll plaza be exempted from paying the toll at the Chandi toll plaza.
