Rohtak, July 11

The building of Government Girls Senior Secondary School at Kharawar village in Rohtak district, which was declared unsafe and demolished nearly six years ago, has finally been reconstructed.

While the government spent about Rs 4.5 crore for the construction of the new building, the village residents also pooled in funds amounting to Rs 70 lakh for filling of loose earth to raise the level of the school compound. “The new building has come up after a long struggle and with relentless efforts of the villagers and government officials. Prominent industrialist Rajesh Jain also contributed Rs 2.45 lakh,” said Capt Jagbir Malik from the village education council.

As per local sources, Capt Malik, along with former sarpanch Bijender Singh Malik, former Rohtak DEO Virender Singh and social activist Rajbir Singh, played an instrumental role in the construction of the new building.

The new building was inaugurated today in the presence of District Education Officer (DEO) Manjeet Malik, former DEO Virender Singh, village sarpanch Saroj Bala, former sarpanch Bijender Singh and Advocate Deepak Malik.

Ever since the demolition of their old school building, the girl students of Classes I to XII were accommodated at another government school building located nearby.

“Now that the girls’ school has got a new building, the girl students are enthusiastic about returning to their own school,” said Bijender Malik.

The DEO said the provision of education to the children was a collective responsibility and the village residents had played a constructive role in this regard.
