A spokesperson of the police department said the encounter took place near Sector 59 (adjoining Delhi- Mumbai Expressway) when a police team, led by Sub-Inspector Jagminder, reached the spot to arrest the accused, identified as Manish.

He said as the cops asked him to surrender, the latter opened fire to evade the arrest. Claiming that while one of the bullets hit the SI, the police opened fire in self-defence, resulting in injuries to the accused as he was hit in his leg. This led to the accused’s arrest.

He had been on the run for the past few weeks after he had been involved in a firing incident on October 5, when Rajnish Singh, a resident of Bharat Colony, was injured.
