War on drugs: Yamunanagar cops recover heroin, opium worth lakhs, arrest over 100

In a sustained crackdown on drug trafficking, the Yamunanagar district police have recovered narcotics worth lakhs of rupees and arrested 106 drug smugglers since January 2025, as part of an intensified drive to rid the district of drug abuse.

According to official figures, the police have registered 52 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act since January 1 this year, leading to significant seizures of banned substances.

During this period, police recovered a sizable haul that includes 7 kg 108 gm of opium, 1 kg 298 gm of heroin, 51 kg 480 gm of poppy husk, 7 kg 148 gm of ganja, 3 kg 212 gm of hashish and 6,594 capsules of restricted pharmaceutical drugs.

Superintendent of Police Surinder Singh Bhoria credited the success to the district’s ongoing anti-narcotics campaign. He said while the police force is committed to tracking and arresting smugglers, public awareness and societal participation are essential for lasting change.

“A special campaign is being run to tackle drug abuse at its root. But to eliminate this menace completely, we need a social movement that involves every section of society,” SP Bhoria emphasised. He added that almost every major criminal incident has some link to drug consumption or smuggling, underscoring the urgency of the fight.

Apart from law enforcement, the district police have also launched awareness programmes, including seminars and outreach activities, especially among the youth, to promote prevention and rehabilitation.

SP Bhoria urged the public to assist the police by reporting drug-related activity. Information can be shared anonymously via WhatsApp or SMS at 88180-01789, the dedicated number of the District Anti-Narcotics Cell Incharge. “The identity of informants will be kept completely confidential,” he assured.

In a heartfelt appeal to the youth, Bhoria said, “You are the future of the country. Stay away from drug abuse and make your families and the nation proud by excelling in education, sports and social work.”

He also called on community members to encourage anyone struggling with addiction to seek help and support, stressing that recovery is possible when society stands together.
