Rohtak, July 6

Taking a serious note of contaminated supply being supplied in the name of drinking water to residents of Mahabir Colony here, local Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra today served a seven-day ultimatum on the district authorities to resolve the issue. He has also threatened to stage a dharna at the Deputy Commissioner (DC)’s office if the demand is not met.

Earlier, Batra visited the colony and listened to residents who said they had been troubled due to the water and sewerage problems for a long time. Roads were dug up some days ago while laying storm drains, during which sewer lines were broken. Since then, sewage was getting mixed with drinking water supply to homes, forcing residents to buy water to meet their daily demand, the residents said.

Bhatra, while talking to mediapersons, said due to the lack of proper arrangements, the drains and sewers on both sides of the road were filled with filth leading to breeding of mosquitoes.

“Water has stagnated on the streets, mud has collected, due to which people are facing problems in commuting. The people residing on Street Numbers 1 and 2 of the colony are the worst affected. Despite repeated complaints, the administration is not taking any action,” said the MLA.

Batra said several residents of Mahabir Colony met him this morning to apprise him of the issues, after which he visited the colony in the evening to take stock of the situation.
