Kharif crops, including cotton and bajra, spread across thousands of acres in over 35 villages of the district have suffered damage due to waterlogging caused by the recent spell of heavy rainfall. The losses have left farmers distressed and looking to the state government for compensation to help them recover from the crisis.

Cotton crops in the Jatusana, Khol, and Nahar blocks are among the worst affected, said Deepak Kumar, SDO (Agriculture). He said a detailed report based on the field survey has been submitted to the department for action.

“Villages such as Lala, Summa Khera, Katopuri Buzurg, Rojhuwas, Rohrai, Khera Aalampur, Palhawas, Pahrajwas, Chang, Saidpur, Chandanwas, Basota, Jiwra, Gopalpur Gazi, Karawara, and Manakpur under the Jatusana block have reported significant damage to cotton crops. Similarly, in the Nahar block, crops have been severely affected in Bahala, Bishwa, Lukhi, Ahmadpur Partal, Bawwa, Nehrugarh, and Karoli,” said an Agriculture Department official.

He said villages such as Dhoki, Gokalgarh, Lisana, Bharawas, Bithwana, Gindokhar under Rewari block and Ahrod, Chitadungra, Nagal Jamalpur, Kolana, Pranpura, Nimoth under Khol block were also experiencing similar crop losses.

Farmers fear if the rainfall continues, they may not be able to sow crops for the next season either. Many pointed out that they rely on loans for sowing, and if two consecutive crops fail, repaying the debt will become impossible. Many affected farmers also lack insurance coverage, making their situation even more precarious.

“I had cultivated crops on 7 acres, and both the cotton and bajra crops have been completely destroyed. The losses are massive. The state government must intervene and support us through this crisis," said Sajjan Singh, a distressed farmer from Bawwa village.

Similar concerns were echoed by other farmers, including Vikram and Suresh Kumar, who are also bearing the brunt of crop damage due to persistent waterlogging. They have demanded Rs 50,000 per acre as compensation to recover the losses.
