A woman dancer performing at a pre-wedding celebration at Pachagon village in Nuh was assaulted after she objected to inappropriate behaviour by a relative of the groom.

The incident, caught on camera, showed a man trying to touch the performer inappropriately. She responded by slapping his arm, following which the man attacked her.

Within moments, several others in the crowd joined in, beating up her and other dancers and tearing off their clothes. The performers were eventually pulled to safety by members of their team.

The video has gone viral, leading to an outcry. Police say they are investigating the matter, though an FIR has not been registered till the time of filing this report.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
