THE working of the civic agencies to fill up the potholes of several roads in the city has led to a rise in dust pollution. Though the damaged patches are required to be repaired with tarcoal or cement mixture, agencies are dumping earth and construction waste to fill up the potholes. This has resulted in severe dust pollution due to vehicles passing over these. While the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) have directed the authorities concerned to ensure tough measures to curb dust and air pollution , this type of action on part of the civic administration of the city, tagged as Smart City, is uncalled for and a violation of the regulations. —Varun Gulati, Faridabad

Broken manhole risk to commuters

A broken manhole on the main road in Basai Part 2 is causing many problems to commuters. It poses a risk of accidents. Despite repeated requests to the authorities concerned to repair it, no action has been taken so far. The issue should be addressed on an urgent basis. —Subhash C Taneja, Gurugram

Hisar villagers meet bittu over railway line

A delegation from Balsamand village in Hisar district met Ravneet Singh Bittu, the Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing, and urged him to provide railway connectivity to the village from Hisar city. They said the railway line would benefit the residents of more than 200 villages and increase employment opportunities in the area. Strays on roads, Kaithal’s Residents seek solution

Anumber of stray animals continue to roam the streets of Kaithal, posing a risk to commuters. Pedestrians and bikers are easy targets for stray cattle. At times it so happens that bulls fighting in markets enter shops, causing loss of life and material. In villages, too, farmers are at the receiving end as stray animals enter their fields and destroy crops. Despite repeated promises by the government, no solution has been found to the problem. Deputy Commissioner Prashant Pawar recently directed officials of the municipal council and Animal Husbandry Department to have these animals shifted to ‘gaushalas’. The locals have demanded that the government act effectively to resolve the matter. —Satish Seth, Kaithal
