The presence of urban dairies in Karnal brings cultural and economic value but poses significant environmental challenges, particularly methane emission. Methane accelerates climate change and arises from cattle digestion and improper dung management. To address this, biogas plants should be established near gaushalas to convert methane into a renewable energy source, reducing reliance on LPG and fossil fuels. Additionally, processed dung can be used to produce organic fertilisers and bio-sticks, promoting sustainable agriculture and creating extra income for dairy operators. Mandatory biogas plants and public-private partnerships for marketing organic fertilisers can transform waste into resources. Public awareness campaigns on these benefits will further drive change. By adopting such sustainable practices, Karnal can reduce its carbon footprint and become a model for urban dairies across India.

PPP causing hindrance in availing govt scheme benefits

The state government's condition of recording family income in the Parivar Pehchan Patra (PPP) for availing benefits of various schemes has become a major hurdle in the implementation of the schemes. The PPP-based condition is depriving the poor and economically backward people of their entitled benefits. There are many instances when elderly reported that their pensions were denied due to discrepancies in PPP known as family ID, while unemployed youth complained that inflated incomes are being shown in their family records. This system needs to be abolished.
