In a significant development into the probe of “white-collar” terror module linked to Al Falah University, investigating agencies have placed the wife and MBBS student daughter of Dr Nisar Ul Hasan reportedly under house arrest inside the university campus. Dr Nisar, a professor of medicine at the university, was earlier arrested from West Bengal for alleged links to the module.

While the agencies have not officially confirmed the development, a senior police officer said investigators are questioning both women. “Dr Nisar’s wife and daughter are under house arrest at his home on the university campus and the investigating agency has confined both of them to their home. After questioning them, their mobile phones have been confiscated. The agency is now examining their mobile data. Both have been prohibited from leaving their homes or communicating with anyone,” the officer said.

Sources said several MBBS students have been barred from leaving the campus after their mobile phones were seized for examination. Their call detail records and data are being scrutinised for possible links to the module.

The university administration has also enforced a strict administrative clampdown. On Thursday, Al Falah University issued a directive stating that no employee is permitted to remain on campus after duty hours. A ward boy from the medical wing, a resident of Dhauj village, has been detained for questioning.

Two MBBS students have also been examined for allegedly being close to Dr Umer — another accused in the module — and for reportedly using his red EcoSport vehicle.

Meanwhile, in Nuh, the role of Afsana, the house owner in Hidayat Colony where Dr Umar stayed for about 10 days, is being viewed with suspicion. She has been missing since the crackdown, and police teams are conducting raids to trace her. A police team has been stationed outside her locked house.

According to police sources, Dr Nisar’s wife works as a gynaecologist at Al Falah Hospital, while his daughter is a first-year MBBS student in the same institution. Both are now under investigation as agencies widen the probe beyond the initial arrests.
