A district-level campaign to eliminate anaemia was launched on Friday at the Mini-Secretariat here under the leadership of Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Virender Sehrawat. The campaign is part of the national Anaemia-Free India initiative, and will run in the district till July 31.

During the meeting, Sehrawat stressed the importance of cooperation among departments, and urged them to carry out awareness activities to ensure the campaign’’s success. The focus will be on six key groups: children aged 6-59 months, children aged 5-9 years, teenagers aged 10-19, women, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers.

Civil Surgeon Dr Mahender Bhadu advised people to consume more fruits and water to prevent iron deficiency, and encouraged those showing signs of anaemia to seek medical help without delay.

Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Rajesh Chaudhary requested full support from all departments to help the Health Department achieve the goal of eliminating anaemia.

Dr Asha Jindal, the Nodal Officer for the campaign, said the Anaemia-Free Haryana initiative was focused on both prevention and treatment.

Persons with haemoglobin levels below 11 gm were classified as having anaemia, while cases with levels below 7 gm were considered severe, Dr Jindal added.
