Woman doctor, man booked under MTP Act

The police have booked a woman doctor, an owner of a private nursing home and a person of Patiala for alleged involvement in malpractice and for demanding money for a woman’s abortion illegally. Earlier, the police had booked three persons reportedly for demanding Rs 2 lakh extortion money on the complaint of the woman doctor.
Civil Surgeon in the complaint said Amandeep of Ranjeet Nagar in Patiala had filed a complaint against Dr Paramjeet Kaur, owner of Simran Nursing Home in Tehsil camp area here on July 10.
Amandeep alleged that he had visited the nursing home for abortion of his wife and Dr Paramjeet Kaur had demanded Rs 15,000 in lieu of doing the abortion illegally. Following the complaint, a team was constituted, and it submitted an initial inquiry report, which included the written statement of the owner of the nursing home, he said.
As per the report, the complainant had visited the nursing home on July 1 and 3 and also recorded a video, which he had provided to the team. Besides, the woman doctor also gave complained to the police against the complainant for demanding extortion from her and she also provided some videos and audio footage to the police. Howeer, its authenticity could not be ascertained by the team, the Civil Surgeon said.
Following the complaint, the city police have registered a case against Dr Paramjeet Kaur and Amandeep of Patiala under various sections of the IPC and the MTP Act.
“We have registered two separate cases, one was on the complaint of woman doctor against three persons for demanding extortion from her, while the other case has been registered against the woman doctor and a person of Patiala on the complaint of the Civil Surgeon,” said Yogesh Kataria, SHO. Probe into the matter is underway.
