Arshpreet Kaur, wife of Gurpyaar Singh, was working in her room when a gunshot went off. Her family rushed to the scene after hearing the sound and found her fatally wounded. The police said the weapon belonged to her husband, who had received the licence following a previous extortion-related threat.

Gurpyaar Singh, who runs a hotel at Tohana and recently started a dairy in his village, had placed the loaded pistol on the bed. According to the victim’s father, Tarsem Singh, Arshpreet Kaur picked up the gun to place it in the cupboard when it accidentally discharged, striking her in the head. She leaves behind a four-year-old daughter.

The Sadar police said the investigation was conducted based on the statement of the victim’s father, and the body was handed over to the family after a postmortem.
