A woman and her son were killed while another person was injured when the autorickshaw they were travelling in was hit by a sugarcane-laden tractor-trailer in Shahabad last evening.

The deceased were identified as Kirna Devi and Ankit, residents of Dayal Nagar.

Rajbir, a resident of Dayal Nagar, in his complaint to the police, stated that last evening, his sister-in-law Kirna Devi and nephew Ankit had left for Dayal Nagar in a three-wheeler and when they reached Ladwa Road in Shahabad, a tractor-trailer loaded with sugarcane hit the three-wheeler from the rear side. Due to the impact, the three-wheeler overturned and the passengers, including Kirna Devi, Ankit, and the driver, suffered injuries.

The tractor-trailer driver fled from the spot. The injured were taken to the Community Health Centre in Shahabad where Kirna Devi and Ankit succumbed to their injuries. The auto driver is stable.

A case has been registered under Sections 106 and 281 of the BNS at the Shahabad police station.

Investigating Officer Assistant Sub-Inspector Rameshwar said that the bodies were handed over the family after the post-mortem today.
