Women panel chief visits Ashoka varsity

Assistant Professor told to present explanation within a week

Renu Bhatia, Chairperson, Haryana State Commission for Women, on Thursday visited Ashoka University at Rai to inquire about the comments made by a faculty member of the university on social media in relation to ‘Operation Sindoor’.

The commission had taken a suo motu cognisance of the statements made by Assistant Professor Ali Khan Mahmudabad in relation to the operation.

The commission had summoned him on May 14, but he failed to appear before it.

Vice-Chancellor Somak Ray Chaudhary, along with Registrar Sachin Sharma, told Bhatia that the professor was on leave and the university had referred the matter to its standing committee.

The university said appropriate action would be taken based upon the committee’s recommendations. The professor's statements don’t represent the views of the university, it added.

The Chairperson directed the professor to present his explanation within a week.
