270 metres of RCC pipes are yet to be laid. Of these, 70 metres will be laid by the Railways and the rest by the municipal corporation.

The municipal corporation had also deposited money to the Railways to lay the pipeline under the railway line, but still the work did not start.

Mayor Suman Bahamani talked to V Somanna , Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti, who was on a visit to Yamunanagar, regarding getting the work of the stormwater drain completed by the Railways.

The Mayor said Somanna talked to the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of the Ambala division and took complete information about the stormwater drain.

She said the Minister told them that the Railways had placed a tender for this work and the work of the drain would be started soon.

She further said the Railway Minister directed the DRM to start the construction of the stormwater drain soon, so that there was no waterlogging in the city.

“For the drainage of rainwater, the municipal corporation is getting the work of stormwater drain done from Kanhaiya Sahib Chowk to Ditch Drain in Jammu Colony of Yamunanagar under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transportation (AMRIT) scheme. Its foundation stone was laid on February 24, 2019,” said the Mayor.

She said 95 per cent of the work of this 4,500 metre long drain

was completed.

According to information, after the construction work of the stormwater drain is completed, the dirty water of the nullah coming from Jagadhri can be diverted from Kanhaiya Sahib Chowk to Jammu Colony.

This will end the problem of overflowing of the nullah and waterlogging in Professor Colony, Model Town, Shakti Nagar, Tagore Garden, Lajpat Nagar, Vijay Colony and Jaswant Colony.
