Workshop on personality development kicks off at Dayanand women’s college

College principal Dr Upasana Ahuja stated that the primary goal of the workshop was to bring about holistic development of students’ personalities, along with enhancement of their innate talents, efficiency and capabilities. She said in today’s competitive era, theoretical knowledge alone was not sufficient for students at the academic level; practical knowledge and technical proficiency were equally essential. With this objective, subject experts would provide practical training throughout the week to the students, based on their interests and abilities, in diverse subjects such as life skills, practical skills, computer skills, entrepreneurial skills, communication skills, Indian knowledge tradition, and career guidance.
She also encouraged all students to participate in the week-long workshop with regularity, discipline and enthusiasm.
On the first day, Karan Singh, social worker (department of psychiatry, LNJP Hospital), shed light on the causes and symptoms of mental disorders arising in today’s stressful environment. He also provided detailed information on the precautions and treatments to be adopted during epileptic seizures.
In the Taekwondo workshop, students were trained in standing-at-ease and attention postures, methods of moving forward and backward, and sitting-standing positions under martial arts. At the Punjabi folk workshop, topics related to Punjabi culture and civilization were discussed. In the life skills workshop based on Indian knowledge tradition, the scientific properties of yajna materials and their important role in environmental conservation and enhancement were explained. In the vedic mathematics workshop, the history, mathematical formulas, and sub-formulas described in the Vedas were discussed.
