On Monday, 3.39 lakh cusecs of water was released into the Yamuna from Hathni Kund barrage. This has worsened the situation in Basantpur, Kidawali, Lalpur, Mahavatpur, Rajpur Kalan and Tilori Khadar, Amipur and Chirsi, Manjhawali, Chandpur, Mothuka, Arua, Chhayansa and Mohana villages.

Basantpur, which has a population of about 8,000, has been the worst hit. Most of the houses in the village have been filled with water. Around 1,500 acres in Chandpur, Rajpur and Mohana have been inundated.

Deputy Commissioner Vikram Singh said there had been no loss of life so far. The police and SDRF teams were continuously evacuating the people, he said. The administration has marked baraat ghar in Dadsia, Jasana, Kanwara and a community centre at Rajpur Kalan as safe homes. Shelter homes have been set up at Arua and Mothuka villages.
