Yamunanagar district admn gets into poll mode

With the announcement of Haryana Assembly election, the district administration has come into action mode.

District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Capt Manoj Kumar said a media certification and monitoring committee (MCMC) had been formed which would keep a close watch on the material to be published and broadcast in newspapers, TV channels and social media.

4,900 arms licences in district

There are about 4,900 arms licences in the district, all licence holders have been instructed to deposit their licences at the respective police stations or recognised arms shops. — Gangaram Punia, SP

“It is mandatory for the candidates to take permission from the MCMC before publishing and broadcasting advertisements in newspapers, TV channels, cable TV, social media, bulk SMS, voice messages and e-papers,” said Kumar, addressing a press conference here today.

He added that a candidate would have to provide information about all his social media accounts by filling the prescribed form and the cost of advertisements would be included in his expenses.

“A notification for the Assembly election will be issued on September 5, 2024. The lection will be held in Haryana on October 1 and counting of votes will take place on October 4,” said Kumar.

He said the voters above 85 years of age could cast their votes at home and would have to fill form number 12-D at the election office to avail the benefit. He said facilities like drinking water, separate toilets for men and women and ramps for the disabled persons would be provided at all polling booths.

He further said this time also pink booths and model booths would be made as per the instructions of the Election Commission.

“Every district has a toll free number 1950. Any help or complaint related to voting can be made on this number. A c-Vigil App has also been created for monitoring the election and anyone can register his/her complaint on it,” said Kumar.

Superintendent of Police Gangaram Punia said the district police was prepared to conduct free, fair and peaceful election.

“Checkpoints have been set up at various places in the district. There are about 4,900 arms licences in the district, all licence holders have been instructed to deposit their licences at the respective police stations or recognised arms shops,” said SP Gangaram Punia.

He said CCTV cameras had been installed at all checkpoints for security purposes.
