A group of youngsters have started distributing dry ration to needy families here during the ongoing pandemic.
The group comprising nine youths, collected Rs 25,000 from their pocket money to start their mission of community service.
The group has distributed 120 packets of dry ration including flour, sugar, tea leaf packets, rice and other items to the needy persons in the past three days.
Geetansh Gaba (22), who runs a dairy products shop at Buria Chungi in Jagadhri, said they were a group of nine friends comprising Anubhav Bagga, Sahil, Sanu Saluja, Rishabh, Prashant Duggal, Piyush Bhanu, Chetanya Jindal, Jatin Gupta and himself.
“We all were free during the lockdown so we decided to use this time to serve the needy. Therefore, we collected Rs 25,000 from our pocket money on May 11 and that day we distributed 30 packets of dry ration to the needy families. Next day, we distributed 40 packets. Besides, we distributed 50 ration packets today. So far, we have distributed ration packets to 120 persons,” said Geetansh Gaba.
He said many people were coming forward to support their group.
“In the past three days, people have donated us more than Rs 25,000 to distribute ration to the needy,” said Geetansh.
He said they had posted ‘Yamunanagar Covid-19 Hunger Warriors’ on social media appealing people to contact them if they wanted to help the needy.
He said they were supplying ration packets only to people such as rickshaw-pullers, daily wagers and other persons.
