According to the complaint filed with the police, the accused, identified as Abhishek, a resident of Gandhi Colony, had extorted the jewellery and cash from the complainant’s daughter over the past few months. It was revealed that Abhishek, who had befriended the girl, had noticed the valuables in an almirah during a visit to her home several months ago. The accused, reportedly addicted to drugs and involved in gambling, allegedly coerced the girl into handing over the jewellery and cash by threatening to kill her younger brother if she didn’t comply.

Following a complaint lodged on September 10, the police initiated an investigation, leading to the arrest and recovery of the stolen items.

During interrogation, the accused confessed to blackmailing another girl in a similar manner. The police are now searching for other individuals suspected of being involved in the crime. The police added that further remand of the accused will be sought to recover all valuables extorted by Abhishek or his accomplices.
