Sanjay Barwasnia, member of Zila Parishad, along with scores of people on Monday staged a protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office, carrying lanterns and lights. They were protesting against hike in electricity bills and increase in mustard oil price for the people living below poverty lines (BPL) and cancellation of over four lakh BPL cards. The protesting zila parishad member submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister via the Naib Tehsildar, demanding immediate action on the following issues.

Making a scathing attack on the BJP, Barwasnia said the BJP government had promised 300 units of free electricity before the elections.

Instead of giving free units, the government had put an additional burden on the general public by increasing the electricity bills. He said now, the BJP government was regularly taking anti-people decisions.

He further accused that the government also shocked the BPL families by increasing the price of mustard oil by Rs 60 and said unemployment was rising every day and the inflation was at the top. Corruption in the state was at its peak.

Barwasnia further stated that the law and order was collapsing. He demanded revocation of the electricity price hike, rollback of the mustard oil price increase for BPL families and reinstatement of cancelled BPL cards with immediate effect.
