The Congress Legislature Party, led by former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Haryana Congress president Rao Narender Singh, today submitted a memorandum to the Governor, highlighting the plight of farmers, deteriorating law and order and alleged scams under the BJP government.

Hooda held a half-hour discussion with the Governor, briefing him on the issues in detail. “The recent heavy rainfall across the state has caused significant damage to farmers' crops. Fields of paddy, cotton and other kharif crops have been submerged, causing severe economic hardship for farmers,” the memorandum stated.

It demanded a special survey and compensation of Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000 per acre. The memorandum accused the government of failing to act, saying waterlogging was preventing the next sowing cycle.

Calling the MSP promise for 24 crops “completely unrealistic,” the Congress alleged widespread irregularities in paddy procurement and black marketing of fertilisers.

On the law and order front, the party said the state had become unsafe. “Murder, extortion, robbery, rape, theft and drug-related incidents have become common... even police officers are resorting to suicide due to lack of justice,” Hooda said.

The memorandum demanded a CBI probe, under the supervision of a sitting High Court judge, into the suicides of ADGP Y Puran Kumar and an ASI.

It also accused the government of misleading voters through the ration card scheme, alleging that “millions were declared BPL before elections to secure votes” and that their cards were later cancelled, calling it a “blatant misuse of welfare schemes for political gain.”
