The police seized 1.3 kg opium from the occupants of a car at Shamti near here on Saturday.

According to the police, the driver tried to flee along with the car when stopped for checking. A checking led to the recovery of opium from a backpack lying on the front seat.

The police arrested driver Vivek and the other occupant Ritesh, both of whom hail from Nohradhar in Sirmaur. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered and both have been arrested.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
