A one-day awareness workshop on safe construction practices was organised at Kaza in the tribal district of Lahaul-Spiti yesterday.

The workshop was chaired by Special Secretary for Revenue and Disaster Management DC Rana while Lahaul-Spiti Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar participated virtually from the National Informatics Centre in Keylong.

The session was conducted by Kaza Additional Deputy Commissioner Rahul Jain.

Rana said the workshop was part of the annual public awareness campaign on disaster risk reduction, organised by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).

The Samarth initiative was launched in 2011 by the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority to promote safe construction practices in disaster-prone areas of the state, he added.

He said the workshops aimed to educate stakeholders on construction techniques to reduce vulnerabilities and minimise damage during disasters.

During the session, Dr Hemant Kumar Vinayak, Associate Professor (Civil Engineering), provided technical insights to executive and junior engineers of various departments.
