One person was killed while 4 others injured when a truck carrying devotees overturned on the national highway near Dhaliara in Dehra sub-division of the Kangra district on Saturday morning.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the devotees has come from Sirsa district in Haryana to perform langar seva in the historic shrines during the 'savan' month.

The local police was told by the eyewitnesses that the truck was carrying about 25 persons from the Odhan village of Dabwali sub-division of the Sirsa district. The group was headed to Mata Jawalamukhi temple to organise a langar seva after paying obeisance at Mata Chintapurni earlier in the morning.

The deceased has been identified as Baldev Singh, son of Balvindra Singh, a resident of Odhan village. According to eyewitnesses, he jumped from the vehicle in panic when the driver of the truck lost control over steering and sustained fatal injuries on the spot leading to his death.

The driver Lakhvindra Singh stated that the truck’s brakes failed during a steep descent near Khooni Mor.
