A resident of Phagwara, Punjab, was killed and three others were injured after the car they were travelling in was hit by shooting stones near Datiyar on the Parwanoo-Dharampur section of the National Highway-5 around 3:17 am on Monday. They were on their way to Shimla.

The deceased has been identified as Dev Raj (40) while the injured are Vandana Sondhi (43), Kuldeep Singh (40) and Bhavuk (23). Solan SP Gaurav Singh said, a passersby informed the police that a vehicle on the Parwanoo-Dharampur stretch was hit by shooting stones, as a result of which, a person had died while another was sent to ESI Hospital, Parwanoo, for treatment. Further investigation was underway, he added

The vehicle was reduced to a mangled heap of metal. As the front portion of the car was completely damaged, the occupants got no time to escape. Loose boulders often threaten commuters on this highway after the hilly slopes were chipped for the four-laning of the road.
