The District Legal Services Authority, Kinnaur, under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the Himachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (HPSLSA), organised a mega legal services programme in Reckong Peo on the themes “Drug Free Society – Resolution of Bharat,” “Save Environment – Save Planet” and “Disaster Victim Rehabilitation”, as per the NALSA Legal Services Camps Module. This was the second camp in the series of Mega Legal Services Camps being organised in the state.

Over 1,000 individuals, including students, teachers, representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions, Mahila Mandals and Yuvak Mandals and members of the tribal community were sensitised about the ill-effects of drugs, the role of legal services institutions in assisting individuals struggling with substance abuse, importance of environmental protection and the rehabilitation of disaster victims.

Legal aid defence counsels, panel lawyers and police personnel addressed the gathering on key topics related to the camp’s themes and informed it about their legal rights and available support mechanisms. A team of folk artistes also performed to spread awareness about drug abuse in an engaging manner.

Ranjeet Singh Thakur, member secretary, HPSLA, who was the chief guest on the occasion, shared his valuable and insightful thoughts with students, representatives of panchayati raj institutions, Mahila Mandals, legal services stakeholders and the general public.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Jitender Kumar, secretary, Kinnaur DLSA. He encouraged all participants to visit the stalls set up by the Legal Services Authority and various departments and register themselves under the eligible welfare schemes to avail of benefits.
