1,043 applications approved under ‘Sukh Shiksha’ scheme in Chamba
The state government’s ‘Indira Gandhi Sukh Shiksha Yojana’ is transforming the lives of underprivileged children in Chamba district, with 1,043 applications approved and nearly 700 cases under review.
District Programme Officer for Child Development Kamal Kishore Sharma confirmed that the scheme is being effectively implemented to support the education, healthcare and financial needs of children of widowed, divorced and disabled parents. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the state government has prioritised social welfare initiatives to uplift vulnerable communities.
The scheme provides Rs 1,000 per month for children below 18 years. Additionally, students aged 18 to 27 pursuing degree, diploma or vocational courses in government institutions across Himachal Pradesh receive free education. Those without hostel facilities are eligible for Rs 3,000 per month for PG accommodation.
To qualify, applicants must be permanent residents of Himachal Pradesh with an annual family income below Rs 1 lakh. Required documents include a death certificate of the father, disability certificate of the guardian, divorce certificate, domicile proof, income certificate, age certificate and family records.
Authorities have ensured that the scheme reaches all deserving candidates. Eligible individuals can apply through anganwadi workers, supervisors, Child Development Project Officers, or the District Programme Officer for Women and Child Development, Sharma added.
