The operation was carried out on the first day of Minjar Fair on Sunday.
A team from the department conducted surprise inspections at various locations, including roadside eateries, tea stalls and temporary food stalls set up for the fair. During the raids, they confiscated domestic gas cylinders being used for commercial purposes — a clear violation of safety and regulatory norms.
Officials confirmed that the seized cylinders will only be returned to the users after they pay the applicable penalties. As per department guidelines, the fine for using one domestic LPG cylinder in a commercial establishment range from Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000.
Strict warnings were issued to all food vendors, dhaba owners and tea stall operators against the use of domestic cylinders in commercial setups. The department emphasised that any further violations would result in immediate seizure of equipment and stringent legal action.
Purushottam Singh, Controller of the District Food and Civil Supplies Department, said inspections would continue regularly throughout the duration of the Minjar Fair. “Strict action will be taken if any food vendor, dhaba or fast-food operator is found using domestic gas cylinders for commercial purposes. Such usage is a violation of safety norms and government regulations,” he said.
He also urged all vendors participating in the Minjar festivities to switch to commercial gas connections and adhere strictly to safety and licensing protocols.
