1,498 NIT students awarded degrees

Vaishaliny V, a B. Arch student of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) here, was awarded the Director’s Medal for her outstanding all-round performance during the year. Dr Sudatta Kar, vice-president and head of Engineering, Capgemini India, awarded the citation to Vaishaliny. As many as 1,498 NIT students were awarded degrees at the 15th convocation of the institute.

Sudatta, who was the chief guest of the annual function, emphasised the urgent need for sustainable practices and technological innovations to address environmental challenges such as climate change and resource depletion. She also stressed the role of technology in addressing societal challenges.

She said that the participation of women in the field of technology was important. She encouraged students to embrace ethical practices in their professional careers.

Earlier, Prof HM Suryavanshi, Director of the NIT, detailed the achievements of the institute. He said that the academic performance of the NIT had improved with the induction of new faculty and other staff members. He added that so far as the campus recruitment of students was concerned, over 81 percent them were recruited in campus selection and the average salary package was over Rs 25 lakh per annum.

Ajay Kumar Sharma, Director (Personnel), SJVNL, also addressed the students on the occasion. Besides the Director’s Medal, the NIT students were also awarded 37 gold, 12 silver and 12 bronze medals. Registrar Archana Nanoty and deans of the NIT were also present.
