Hundreds of young men thronged the district headquarters in protest against the Agnipath recruitment scheme for armed forces announced by the Union Government. The police acted swiftly and arrested 15 protesters. The Central Government had proposed a four-year service plan to youth who wants to join Indian defence services.

The protesters raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Ankush Thakur from Hamipur town said that the Central Government had betrayed youth. He adedd that many people were practising daily for selection in the defence forces but the new recruitment scheme had shattered their dreams.

Comrade Kashmir Singh Thakur and advocates Joginder Kumar and Suresh Thakur were arrested while they were addressing protesting youth. Kashmir Singh alleged that the government was trying to play with the security of the country and the sentiments of the youth.
