15 sent to police custody in Chamba group clash case

A local court today remanded 15 persons, who had been arrested in connection with the recent group clash in Chamba town, in police custody for three days.

Chamba Additional Superintendent of Police Hitesh Lakhanpal said that the police were trying to identify other people involved the in the clash that was given a communal colour by some fringe elements. The clash had occurred on Wednesday evening when a group of around 30 youths allegedly arrived on motorcycles and in cars and attacked three local boys.

Residents had alleged that the group involved in the assault used an abusive language and created panic in the area.

Locals had caught hold of one of the attackers while others fled. Later, a case of rioting, unlawful assembly and criminal conspiracy was registered against the youths involved in the attack. Police sources said that the clash was the result of an old enmity. It had led to tension in the town.
