Sixteen top schools of India will take part in the Dr Samuel Slater Memorial Invitational Inter-School English Debates that began at Bishop Cotton School today. The debates will continue till September 25.

BCS Director Simon Weale said the Slater debates imbibes the values of rational, higher-order critical thinking skills enabling the articulation of analytical reasoning.

“At BCS, we aim to provide a safe space for students from all over the country and abroad to express themselves through debating,” he added.

The director said, “These values enhance growth in society for the better as change is the result of all true learning. A student’s all-rounded development occurs through testing skills outside academic and athletic parameters. Extracurricular activities enable profound character development and team building.” The director added the draw of lots for the pre-qualifiers were finalises today.
