An 18-year-old youth was killed while two others sustained injuries after a car (HP 10C 2427) they was travelling in plunged into a deep gorge in Rohru, police said here today.

The deceased was identified as Kunal Panchta (18), son of Ravi Panchta and resident of Adal village in Rohru. The injured include Rahul and Piyush, both Rohru residents.

As per Rahul’s statement, the accident took place today around 5 am when Kunal, along with his friends, was on his way from Machoti village to Barla village to drop his friend. When they reached near Chapoti kainchi, another boy Aman who was driving the vehicle lost its control and the car skidded into a deep gorge. Aman fell out from the vehicle on the road while rest of the passengers got trapped inside the vehicle.

Police reached the spot and rescued the injured and also recovered the dead body.

The injured were rushed to Civil Hospital, Rohru, where they are undergoing treatment while the body of the deceased was handed over to his family after postmortem.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rohru Ravindra Negi said that the accident occurred due to rash and negligence driving. DSP said that a case under Section 281 (rash driving), 125(A) (Act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 was registered against the driver and further investigation was underway.
