A 19-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at Balika Ashram in Mashobra, around 11 km from Shimla.

According to reports, the girl was a native of Chamba district and was currently residing in the ashram. She was found hanging near the staircase area of the ashram by some residents who immediately informed the police. A police team along with forensic experts reached the spot and took the body to Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla, for post-mortem.

Shimla Additional Superintendent of Police Rattan Negi confirmed the report and said a case under Section 119 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023 had been registered and further investigation was going on to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the incident.
