2 die, two hurt in separate road accidents in Sirmaur

Two separate road accidents in Sirmaur district within a span of a few hours claimed the lives of two young men and left two others injured, casting a pall of gloom in the region.

The first accident occurred late yesterday night in Paonta Sahib subdivision when a speeding motorcycle lost control near a petrol pump close to Surya Colony on the Bangran road. Before crashing, the bike struck a pedestrian, Rohit, son of Jodhan Singh, resident of Ward No. 6 Shubhkheda, Paonta Sahib, who was left injured.

The rider, identified as 25-year-old Gopi Kishan, son of Dhanbir Singh of Kalatha Kilod village in the Anjbhoj area, was thrown off the bike and sustained fatal head injuries, dying on the spot. He had been residing in a rented room in Paonta Sahib.

The second tragedy took place this morning around 6.30 on the Paonta Sahib-Kala Amb National Highway (NH-07) near Kutasan Devi temple. A truck loaded with apples and headed towards Pinjore went out of control, rammed into a hillside, and overturned on the highway.

One of the occupants, Kundan, son of Roshan Lal of Gatodi village, Rusla Post Office, Nerwa tehsil, Shimla district, was trapped under the vehicle and died instantly. The driver, Rakesh, son of Jagat Ram of Bhavi village, Rusla, Nerwa tehsil, also from Shimla district, sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at Dr YS Parmar Government Medical College, Nahan. The police have taken possession of the body for post-mortem before handing it over to the family.

Paonta Sahib DSP Manvendra Thakur and DSP Headquarters Ramakant Thakur confirmed both incidents, adding that separate cases have been registered.
