2 held with 1-kg charas in Nagrota Bagwan

In a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, the Kangra district police on Saturday evening seized 1 kg and 6 grams of charas from a Manali-Pathankot bus at Nagrota Bagwan. Two alleged smugglers were arrested on the spot.

According to police sources, the team was conducting routine patrol when it received a specific input that two passengers were carrying a large quantity of contraband. Acting swiftly, the police set up a blockade near the Sunehad bridge and intercepted the bus. A detailed search led to the recovery of the narcotic substance from the suspects.

The accused have been identified as Harish Kumar alias Bittu (45), a resident of Chhatroli in Nurpur tehsil, and Rokkey (34) of Chak Dharavkhan village in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir. Both were taken into custody, and a case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Nagrota Bagwan police station.

Police sources said the duo had been under surveillance for some time, as they were suspected of being involved in the illegal drug trade.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashok Rattan said the district police have intensified their crackdown on drug peddlers and will continue to act firmly against those involved. He also appealed to the public to share any information regarding drug activities, assuring that informants’ identities would remain confidential.
