224 athletes to take part in National Games

As many as 224 athletes will participate in 20 sports events at the upcoming 38th National Games, which will be held in Uttarakhand later this month. This was revealed in the annual meeting of Himachal Pradesh Olympic Association (HPOA) held in Shimla. The meeting was chaired by HPOA president and former minister Virender Kanwar.

In the meeting, the association passed a proposal in which government grant was demanded for the association to ensure proper arrangements for the players in the participating in the games.

The HPOA also approved a 15-day training camp for the players. All sports associations have been asked to organise the training camp at their own level.

To promote sports in the state, HPOA general secretary Rajesh Bhandari proposed that a Sports Development Committee be formed in the state. The proposal was unanimously accepted by all the members. In the meeting, ice skating, netball, sports climbing (traditional game) and snowboarding were also given recognition.
