257 patients examined at Kangra ENT camp

Kangra branch of Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari, organised a day-long ENT camp today. As many as 257 patients were examined at Gopal Bagh Gurkari and 51 audio-metric tests were done. Also, 12 patients who were identified for surgeries were operated upon in a surgical camp.

Seventeen patients were identified for different surgeries and 240 were given treatment and hearing aids. During the last three years, 13 speech-impaired children have been helped with cochlear implants.

PR Agnihotri, convener, Vivekananda Kendra, Kangra branch, said the cochlear implant, which cost Rs5.38 lakh was being provided to patients, besides the surgery amounting to Rs1.10 lakh was also being performed for free. He said in view of a spurt in the number of people with hearing impairments, particularly among women and children, such camps had become necessary. The patients arrived here from Hamirpur, Una, Mandi, Chamba, Kullu and Bilaspur.

He said 12 surgeries were performed at Pahwa Hospital in Birta on the outskirts of the town. The kendra has been holding such camps on a monthly basis for the last 16 years here.
