The cyber commando training programme is an initiative of the Centre to combat cybercrime and to bloster national security. Under this programme, the cyber commandos would be trained to deal with cyber threats. These commandos would play an important role in securing the country’s cyber ecosystem and responding to potential cyber threats.

Mohit Chawla, Deputy Inspector General, State CID, Cybercrime said last year, 12 officers from Himachal Pradesh Police had been selected for the cyber commando programme. This year’s selected officers would receive six months of specialised training in cybersecurity and technology at several IITs.

This training would enhance their expertise and improve capacity-building efforts, enabling officers to contribute more effectively in the field of cyber security, he said.

At present, around 400 cybercrime complaints have been filed across the state with most of the cases being of digital arrests.
