29-year-old woman killed as car plunges into gorge near Shimla

A woman was killed while another person sustained injuries after the car they were travelling in plunged into a deep gorge in Nerwa under Chopal sub-division of Shimla district, the police said.

The deceased has been identified as Kajal Negi (29), daughter of Vijay Pal, while the injured is Udit Negi (30), son of Chandra Negi, both residents of Neoti village in Nerwa.

According to information, the accident took place on Tuesday evening on the Neoti-Lakhawati link road when the duo was on their way home. Udit was behind the wheel and he lost control over the vehicle around 5 km away from Nerwa. Kajal is learnt to have died on the spot.

The accident was noticed by locals, who informed the police. A police team reached the spot and rescued the injured and also brought out the body from the gorge. The injured was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Nerwa from where he was referred to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) in Shimla for further treatment.

Shimla Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi confirmed the incident and said inquest proceedings were underway.
