Three inter-state drug peddlers have been arrested with 16.77-gm ‘chitta’ (heroin) in the Rohru subdivision of Shimla district, the police said here on Wednesday. The accused have been identified as Rohit Kumar (25), a resident of Mohali, Punjab; Vishal Dutta, a resident of Amb, Una district; and Deepika (23), a resident of Sector 56, Chandigarh.

According to reports, the police received a tip-off that some drug peddlers were on their way to Rohru, carrying heroin. Acting on the information, a police team stopped a car near Makhinala in Rohru for checking. During the checking, the contraband was found to be in possession of the accused, after which they were arrested, and the heroin was confiscated. Rohru Deputy Superintendent of Police Pranav Chauhan said a case under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, had been registered against the accused, and further investigation was underway.
