Shimla, June 19

With the highest spike of 32 cases in a single day since the Covid outbreak, the total number of cases in Himachal Pradesh today reached 627. These include six deaths and 223 active cases.

The highest number of 14 cases was reported from Hamirpur district, taking the total tally of cases in the district to 155. Kangra and Solan reported eight cases each while two new cases were detected in Bilaspur district.

All the 14 persons, who tested positive in Hamirpur, were under institutional quarantine in the district and had returned from Delhi. These include a 62-year-old woman and two minors (six and 11) from Barsar. A 38-year-old man from Galore, two men aged 34 and 24 from Sujanpur and four from Bhoranj, including a 32-year-old woman, were found infected. Three children, one a two-year-old girl and two boys (10 and 5) were also found Covid-positive.

Archana Soni, Hamirpur Chief Medical Officer, said all the positive persons had been shifted to a dedicated Covid care centre.

Eight cases were reported from Kangra district. These include seven men and a 29-year-old woman belonging to Dhanag village near Baijnath. Others are a 29-year-old person belonging to Bhuhana village near Chadiyar, a 32-year-old person from Rupehar near Chadiyar, a 28-year-old person of Kholi village near Dheera, a 59-year-old from Thural, a 58-year-old from Gaggal Kholi near Dheera, a 51-year-old from Jheol near Dharamsala and a 26-year-old from Biara near Panchrukhi.
